INDIA: AN EMERGING PLAYER IN THE FIELD OF MEDICAL TOURISM

Abstract

India has been a popular destination among global tourist for its vast culture, hospitality and low cost of travel. Due to this hospitality and low-cost India is drawing visitors in Health sector. Indian medical tourism industry is very fast growing. India is unique by virtue of its common language (English), highly skilled manpower and the expertise of doctors since they deal in a diverse medical condition.Medical tourism has a dedicated team in various fields like translators, travel and visa assistance, accommodation and post-treatment care. Indian medical tourism was almost $3 billion in the year 2015 and is expected to grow by 200% by the end of year 2020 (approximately $9 billion). The Government is also encouraging to promote medical tourism in various ways possible and why not, it brings foreign currency. This way medical tourism has become a major contributor for expansion of Indian economy.
