PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT OF MIGRATORY LABOUR IN MANUFACTURING INDUSTRIES IN PUNJAB

Abstract

Economic history across world has demonstrated that migratory labour has played crucial role in the economic development of countries in general and in promoting industrial activities in particular .In India the differences in socio economics activities across Indian states in particular along with host of few well known parameters have led to uneven industrial activities across India. This has led process of migration across Indian states from some under developed states to developed states like Punjab. The state of Punjab has witnessed huge inflow of migratory labour from less developed states like Bihar/U.P. where the process of green revolution was delayed .The state of Punjab has also seen significant growth in manufacturing industries, which led to huge demand for labour .Accordingly the state of Punjab is house to large migratory labour in Industrial sector. The present study is modest attempt to analyse the performance of migratory labour over a period of time. Primary survey was conducted to 500 migratory labour working in manufacturing industries to study to what extent the labour expectations have been fulfilled .The effect of demographics on performance has been analysed with the chi square The findings of the study will go a long way in devising appropriate policies for migratory labour .
