Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine the job stress and general health amongst teachers of both sex (male & female), different cadres (Primary, Secondary & College) and having different self –efficacy beliefs (High and Low). Initially, 900 teachers from different cities of Haryana state of India were contacted and General self-efficacy scale was administered to identify the teachers with High self-efficacy and Low self-efficacy beliefs. The final size was taken with a total of 300 subjects on basis of their scores on General Self-efficacy Scale following the median criteria; scores above median were categories as High self-efficacy and scores below median as Low self-efficacy. The same treatment was given to both Sexes and different cadres as well. To select the sample units, systematic random sampling was used. The obtained scores were analysed by computing Mean, S.D and 2x3x2 factorial analysis of variance. It was observed that sex and cadre had significant main effect on general health. It was also found that sex x cadre and sex x self-efficacy had significant interactive effects on job stress and general health at 0.01 and 0.05 levels respectively. Key words: job stress, teachers, general health, self-efficacy, cadres, sex
