Abstract

The new economic policy implemented by India in 1990’s popularly known as liberalization of Indian economy, has boosted the economic growth further. As a result selected states in India are undergoing faster economic development thus generating more employment opportunities. On other hand some north Indian highly populated states are very low on infrastructure facilities and job opportunities. Maharashtra along with other affluent states has become attractive destinations for the interstate migrants from such states. The main objective of this paper is to understand disparities in the inter-state migration pattern among the districts in Maharashtra. The findings show that interstate migrants have largely moved to the economically most developed districts of the state. While economically least developed districts, in the state failed to draw the interstate migrants.
