Abstract

Organizational citizenship behavior (OCB) is positive and constructive behavior that employees perform, on their own strength, which supports co-workers and benefits the company. Employees who frequently engage in OCB are those people who are known to go the extra mile or go above and beyond the minimum efforts required to do a satisfactory job. An organization will benefit from encouraging employees to engage in OCB, because it has been proved to increase productivity, efficiency and customer satisfaction and reduce costs and rates of employee turnover and absenteeism. One can promote OCB in workplace through employee motivation, as well as giving them the opportunity to display their interests. Management should also be educated about OCB, and consider having OCB included in performance evaluations in order to actively encourage it among employees. In this study, the researcher has studied the impact of the purported antecedents of OCB on organizational citizenship behavior of nurses in JOSEPH EYE HOSPITAL – TRICHY. The significance of variables has been studied and the research has highlighted aspects which the organization needs to consider in improving the OCB of employees. Structured questionnaire was administered to nurses of the hospital. The sample size is 91. The researcher has followed descriptive type of research and the result was interpreted using the software SPSS16.0.
