Abstract

The dung beetles (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae) are one of the largest aggregation of insects and include about 30,000 species world-wide. The organization of dung beetle communities is very sensitive to changes in abundance of food resources, vegetation structure, microclimatic variables and soil characteristics. The study on diversity of dung beetles hence provides information to understand the ecological condition of the ecosystem concerned. The northern part of Western Ghats around Pune district is therefore selected for the study of diversity of dung beetles.
