Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to investigate the relationship between access to energy consumption, especially power, poverty alleviation and human development in Odisha. Association has been drawn between per capita power consumption and per capita income (per capita NSDP at constant prices). An insight has been given on human development indices and energy consumption in terms of percentage of villages electrified in various districts of Odisha during the period 2003-04. It turns out that poverty has a bearing on the types of energy consumed, which in turn, affects health, education and income earning opportunities. Access to reliable and affordable energy remains an essential prerequisite for combating poverty and enhancing quality of life
