Abstract

At the era of rapidly changing environment, no technology could be considered as fixed. At this state spending money and time based on a particular setup is not at all preferred. Constant change is the need of the time and hence constant sync with the change too. Open source software’s came up as a big advantage in providing flexible environment with no cost. Along with it, it provides a platform to develop better applications and also a learning ground for many users. Our paper is an effort towards understanding the reasons of popularity of Open Source software’s, their consequences on proprietary software’s and also the troubles. Easy accessibility along with it brings vulnerability, but still because of different shells in different flavours of Linux like Ubuntu, Suse etc. makes it less prone to viruses and malwares as compared to operating systems like Windows. On the other hand iOS have more security but also an added cost. The different proprietary applications also need to get their license purchased which adds up the price in the time of dynamic technology.
