The whole territory of Orisse during early medieval timen was divided amongst the various ruling houses, which granted lands to feudal vessels, officials, temples and above all to bethenes which led to the fragmentation of land. The numerous lend grents show the existence of a considerable class of religious grantees and secular assignees.
