Castor bean is most important commercial non edible crops for some states of India. Castor seed oil is widely used as a lubricant in high-speed engines and aero planes, manufacture of soaps, transparent paper, printing-inks, varnished, linoleum and plasticizers. It is also used for medicinal purposes castor oil pack used toxemia, relieve pain, and reduce inflammation, arthritis and colitis. Leaves are used in the form of a poultice or for sores, boils and swellings.
