Abstract

An experiment was set up to detect the effect of different heavy metals on the meiosis i.e., chiasma frequency and meiotic abnormalities of Plantago ovata . Meiosis was almost normal in control plants of Plantago ovata. In control condition Plantago ovata displayed normal meiotic behavior having n=4. A number of meiotic abnormalities however were observed when the plant was treated with different types of heavy metals ,e.g., laggards, bridges, chromosomal clumping, stickiness etc. at different stages.
