Abstract

Textile and apparel retailing is a seasonal business. It is synonymous to rapid change, and as a result, commercial success or failure in the market is largely determined by the organization’s flexibility and responsiveness. Responsiveness is characterized by short time- to-market, the ability to scale up (or down) quickly and the rapid incorporation of customer preferences into the design process. Therefore, to meet the variable demand, manufacturers must build inventory and then draw them down as customer activity increases. The textile industry is a complex industry involving unpredictable variation in market trends.
