Abstract

Financial services include risk in some way. Like all financial institutions, Micro Finance Institutions (MFIs) are subject to a variety of financial and non-financial risks during the financial intermediation process, including risks relating to credit, interest rates, foreign exchange rates, liquidity, equity prices, commodity prices, legal and regulatory issues, reputational risks, operational risks, and more. Because of the close ties between these dangers, actions that influence one risk category may have consequences for a number of others. For the project to succeed, each of these risks needs to be properly and successfully addressed. The MFI is unlikely to achieve its social and financial goals if its risk management is poor.
