In this paper the fundamentals of queueing theory and derivations of basic queueing models are reviewed. Initially we define the basic components of queueing theory and a review of exponential probability theory. Then we discuss modelling of queuing systems, in particular pure birth model, pure death model and then birth-death model. We discuss some basic queueing models in steady-state then we do case-study of a very busy maternity hospital in local area.
