Abstract

This specific study will investigate the nationalist viewpoint in the book The Home and the World published by Nobel Prize winner Rabindranath Tagore. The book is set in Bengal in the backdrop of the Swadeshi Movement. Tagore with his three characters Nikhil, Bimala and Sandip develops his nationalist stance in the story. This article also addresses the concerns in India surrounding the country’s instability in confronting the new period of modernity and independence. This study tries to evaluate the portrayal of Indian Nationalism, by concentrating on the ideological struggle and how the settlement of the disputes depicts the notion of nationalism. In addition to this, a critical analysis of Bimala’s perspective around her house and her choice between the two main characters of the story named as Sandip and Nikhil will also be discussed in an effective way.
