Abstract

Water scarcity is becoming endemic with seasonal monsoon which gives most of the rains during south west monsoon and partially during North East monsoon. In order to have water security, surplus water has to be transferred from surplus to deficit basins in India and particularly in peninsular India. Many factors have to be considered while transferring surplus water to deficit basins. Srisailam Right Branch canal (SRBC) is one of the projects taken up to transfer water from surplus Krishna basin to pennar basin. Water sources are developed through rain and groundwater before release of project water. Groundwater under the SRBC project is under various stages of development in different blocks. Groundwater along Kundu and in certain blocks have not been developed because of poor groundwater quality which is not suitable for irrigation.
