Abstract

Cultures of the fungus Neurospora crassa were used for cellulase enzymes production on carboxymethyl cellulose as substrate. The optimum parameters for cellulase production and characterization from the fungus was – Incubation period - 4 days Optimum temperature - 31°C pH optima - 5.0 Optimum substrate - 100 mg of filter paper. The study of cellulase inhibition was carried out by two potent inhibitors, m - dinitrobenzene (MDB) and pentachloro phenol (PCP). Enzyme inhibition showed reduction in fungal cellulolysis. The reduction in cellulolytic activity was 92.5% by MDB & by 86.8% by PCP.
