Abstract

Apprenticeship can play an important role in the task of upgrading the skills of the Indian workforce, providing the opportunity to share costs between different parties (employers, individuals and government) and involve governments, employers and workers in partnership. The expansion of apprenticeship must go hand in hand with other developments in VET such as the sector skills councils and the national vocational qualifications system. In any system expansion, quality must be a primary consideration.
