PERSONAL HYGIENE PRACTICES AMONG COAL MINERS OF DAMINI COLLIERY IN SHAHDOL DISTRICT, M.P. INDIA

Abstract

An individual to care for one's bodily health and well-being through cleanliness is called personal hygiene. A study was conducted among 400 male coal mine workers of Damini underground colliery in Shahdol District of Madhya Pradesh. The present research is about to understand coal miners knowledge towards personal hygiene and how they practice on this. A semi-structured interview-schedule was prepared to the investigation. The questions of the study were related to workers daily practices in brushing, bathing, cleaning the body and house and so on. A large number of miners (i.e. more than 90 %) were aware from personal hygiene. 99 % of workers used closed toilet and as similarly used soap after toilet only 0.5% of workers use ash for hand-wash after fecal.
