Abstract

Study of indoor radon, thoron and their progeny concentration has been carried out in some selected dwellings of Rampur District of western Uttar Pradesh. The measurements were made in the residential houses from December 2011 to November 2012 in a mixed field of radon-thoron twin cup dosimeter containing LR-115 Type II solid state nuclear track detector. In the present study, it is found that the average value of radon and thoron concentration varies from 18.77Bq/m3 to 44.95Bq/m3 and 10.89Bq/m3 to 21.20Bq/m3 respectively while the average value of radon progeny and thoron progeny concentration varies from 2.02mWL to 4.85mWL and .29mWL to .57 mWL respectively. The observed radon, thoron and progeny concentration inside the dwellings were found to be lower than the ICRP value of 200Bq/m3 and thus are within safe limits.
