Abstract
Dairy farming is one of the most important land-based economic activities in the Tarai area of the Himalayas. Apart from being an integral part of agriculture, dairy farming also provides gainful employment to a large number of people and fetches cash income to families. History of milk development in the Uttarakhand is very old. Its history was started in the year 1949 when the Haldwani Milk Federation was established. Uttarakhand Independent Dairy Development Department was established by Uttar Pradesh Government in year 1991. Uttarakhand has 13 districts and in all these districts the milk development programmes are running. The study carried out of Almora, Nainital, Udham Singh Nagar is three districts of Kumaon region. There is government milk dairies are established which are responsible for dairy products and running the milk development programmes.
