 STUDIES ON AA6082-SI3N4& AA7075-SI3N4 COMPOSITES

Abstract

The aluminum based composites are widely used in theaerospace, automobile,mineral processing industries and transport owing to their improved strength to weight ratio & wear resistance properties. It is aimed to present the results of the experimental studies conducted regarding Ultimate tensile strength andmicro hardness of AA6082-Si3N4 and AA7075-Si3N4 composites. The composites are prepared using the stir casting technique, in which 4-12 wt. %’age of reinforcement were mixed in the matrix alloy. The fabricated composites of AA6082-Si3N4 and AA7075-Si3N4specimens are prepared using standard procedure. The addition of reinforcement i.e. Si3N4 results in the enhancement of composites UTS and hardness. Further, as the reinforcement %’age increases UTS and hardness of fabricated composites also increases
