Abstract

Bioprocess Engineering deals with the application of engineering principles to design, develop and analyze bioprocesses. On an industrial scale the bioprocesses are carried out in bioreactors. The most common is the chemostat and the present work in on the design of it using MATLAB software. In the present study the microbial growth equations following Monod’s, Andrew’s, Contois and Tessier are investigated for the dynamic behavior studies. The product formation (Luedking – Piret model) and substrate consumption are given by first order differential equations. The optimum operating conditions of a chemostat for these systems are simulated using dynamic analysis. The behavior of the four models mentioned are compared and presented.
